Dabnis vs Vanessa's Grandparents — The Cosby Show Grilling That Went TOO FAR

Dabnis Brickey brought a mince meat pie. Vanessa's grandparents brought a list of questions, and they did not stop until they had a number. He barely gets through the introductions before Russell and Mrs. Hanks have him standing in the middle of the room answering for everything: the church he attends, the choir he doesn't sing in, the six years in the army, the four years running maintenance at the college. Then it sharpens. How many students has he been engaged to. How many has he dated. Whether he expects a wife to work, or expects to be supported — and every answer he gives gets turned around on him before he finishes it. Watch him ask, very carefully, whether the room feels warm. It does not, to anybody else. The best part is how they got their information: a church grapevine and a woman named Gladys Rogers, who apparently knows more than any Sunday bulletin ever printed. The Cosby Show built its final season around Vanessa's engagement, and this is The Cosby Show putting Dabnis through the one test he can't prepare for. Meanwhile Cliff is still guarding his new refrigerator and Denise is still leaving her clothes in a house she doesn't live in.
