Although South Africa has advanced women's representation in local government, women remain underrepresented in municipal leadership, with women mayors leading only 83 of the country's 257 municipalities. According to the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa, in the 2026 Local Government Elections, male candidates constitute the majority at 62%, while female candidates account for 38%. To talk more about how some parties are addressing female representation quota in the 2026 Local Government Elections, we are joined by Dikeledi Selowa, Democratic Alliance's Tshwane Councillor Candidate, Nyakallo Mokoena from the Economic Freedom Fighters Youth Command's Central Youth Interim Leadership Core Member and Tumi Ramakoaba, Inkatha Freedom Party's Publicity Secretary for Gauteng Women's Brigade.
