This talk showcases native plants and animals now flourishing in Ookwemin Minising, the redeveloped Portlands and Don Mouth. Surveys by TRCA reveal the remarkable biodiversity being rapidly established in this new part of our city. Thanks to detailed design and planting plans, forest, marsh, and aquatic species are finding suitable habitats. The new territory is also being accepted by breeding birds, including ground nesting birds, as well as by non-avian fauna.
Speakers:
Dell Tune is Biologist, Watershed Planning and Ecosystem Science, Development and Engineering Services, with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority. After working as a volunteer at Tommy Thompson Bird Research Station, Dell joined the TRCA, initially as a field assistant. He has been conducting bat, frog and bird surveys since that time.
Brian Ford is Biologist, Terrestrial Inventories and Monitoring, with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority. Brian monitors the health of forests, wetlands, and meadows in the Toronto Region. He has a keen interest in understanding how people and nature can not only coexist but thrive in urban landscapes.
