In this next installment of Black Lives Matter in Classical Music, we jump back a few centuries to the days of Marie Antoinette. Joseph Bologne--Chevalier de St. Georges, the son of a wealthy plantation owner and his enslaved mistress, led a fascinating life full of adventure, misadventure, prodigious talent, and scores upon scores, literally, of trail-blazing classical compositions.
Dubbed "The God of Arms" and hailed Europe's champion fencer, Alicia and Marielle delve into the history surrounding the mysterious and overlooked life of this master of all trades, and why he needs no comparison to his former roommate, W.A. Mozart.
