The Elusive (Cat of the Wetlands) - The Fishing Cat story

This film is primarily meant to educate anyone who is interested to understand and observe the natural history of the Fishing Cat. The cat happens to have wetland adaptations like a double layered fur, partially webbed feet and semi- retractile claws to hook fish and eat them. All these are fantastic diversions in the wild cat family most of which would avoid water and prey on land animals. The film is almost wholly composed of camera trap footage of individual Fishing Cats - especially an incidentally lame Fishing Cat named 'Choti' and her cubs - and is thus probably one-of-a-kind. These Fishing Cats are being monitored by member of The Fishing Cat Project, who are from the fishermen community and are part of a program called 'Know Thy Neighbours' in which they take part in research of the cats and name the cats that they monitor. This film is a product of the joint patrolling and monitoring initiative - on Fishing Cats, its habitat and associated biodiversity - by The Fishing Cat Project and Chilika Development Authority. The Fishing Cat Project is partner to Fishing Cat Conservation Alliance (www.fishingcat.org) and is the world's longest running research and conservation project on this unique wetland species. Chilika Development Authority is a government body entrusted with the management and governance of Chilika, Asia's largest brackishwater lagoon and India's first Ramsar site.
