Welcome to another inspiring episode of Mathrubhumi VAASA! In this tour, we explore how a 100-year-old termite-affected ancestral tharavadu in a 7-cent plot was thoughtfully transformed into a modern, eco-friendly 1600 sq. ft. dream home while preserving its soulful heritage. By reusing 95% of the old house's timber, 12 loads of rubble, and vintage roof tiles, the homeowners were able to complete this stunning 3-bedroom residence on a budget of ₹50 Lakhs—saving nearly ₹20–30 Lakhs compared to new construction!
Watch how intelligent climate-responsive design elements—like a central courtyard (Nadumuttam), Porotherm brick walls, wire-cut jali work, and imported Vietnamese terracotta flooring—keep this home naturally cool and lit throughout the year.
