Jimmy “Duck” Holmes playing “Rock Me, Baby” at the Blue Front Cafe’s 78th Anniversary, Saturday, September 26, 2026, in Bentonia, Mississippi. He is accompanied by Ryan Lee Crosby from Rhode Island.
Filmed on site at the Blue Front Cafe, 107 W. Railroad Avenue, Bentonia. The cafe opened in 1948 by Carey and Mary Holmes and is the oldest continuously operating juke joint in Mississippi. Their son, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, has run the place since 1970. He is a Grammy-nominated traditional blues artist and the last widely recognized living player of the Bentonia School — the minor-key style associated with Henry Stuckey, Skip James, and Jack Owens.
The anniversary party is the cafe’s annual gathering marking the 1948 opening. Holmes often leads the night. This clip is fan-shot footage from that Saturday, not an official release.
