Scotland’s Places of Worship Deserve Better | Euan Stainbank MP

⛪️Places of worship provide increasingly precious community spaces across Falkirk, particularly in areas where community centre cuts and closures have hit hardest—but the Scottish Government’s support falls woefully short. The UK Labour Government’s Places of Worship Renewal Fund provides £23 million a year. By contrast, the Scottish Government’s proportionately smaller £1 million scheme has been funded from Historic Environment Scotland’s existing budget—a budget the Scottish Government had already cut. The Scottish Government were informed in January 2025 that responsibility for this support would be transferred to them. They initially denied that they had been advised of the changes well in advance and have acted only now, after the issue was raised and pressure was applied.
