What happens when you test driver shafts completely blind — no labels, no flex info, no expectations?
In this video, Tom hits a range of very different driver shafts without knowing what he’s using, including options most golfers would assume are completely wrong for him. From lighter profiles to very heavy, very stiff shafts, we let the performance and data do the talking.
This isn’t about brand loyalty or what should work on paper — it’s about what actually performs when feel, ball flight, dispersion and launch monitor data are analysed properly.
We tested a mix of popular and premium driver shafts, including:
Ventus Black
Project X VRTX Blue
ACCRA TZ6
ACCRA GX 100 Series
Throughout the test, Tom gives real feedback on feel, load, stability and confidence, before we break everything down with in-depth data analysis to see which shaft truly performed best — and why.
The results challenge some very common assumptions golfers make about:
Shaft flex
Shaft weight
“What they should be playing”
And how much feel can actually be trusted
If you’ve ever been told you need a certain shaft because of swing speed, handicap, or strength — this test might make you think twice.
👀 Try and guess along as you watch — then see how your assumptions compare to the data at the end.
