On 15 September 2026, Dr Al Pinkerton MP led a Westminster Hall debate on the Building Safety Remediation of Residential Buildings. The debate focused on three key issues: protecting residents during remediation works, the operation of PAS 9980 and the competence of those making fire safety decisions, and the challenges facing non-qualifying leaseholders. Dr Pinkerton's work on this issue was driven by cases in Camberley, Surrey Heath, where a number of EWS1 assessments were later found to be unreliable or incorrect. Since being elected in 2024, he has pressed the Government on building safety reform, the regulation of fire safety professionals, and the need for stronger protections for residents affected by flawed assessments and prolonged remediation processes. The debate provided an opportunity to raise these concerns directly with the Minister and push for further action on behalf of affected residents.
