BLCKSHIFT-Session w/ DROWSY

DROWSY is a Vienna-based Drum & Bass DJ and one of the emerging names within Austria’s underground bass music scene. His approach to Drum & Bass is built around contrast. Rather than staying inside a single subgenre, DROWSY moves between liquid atmospheres, rolling basslines and increasingly heavy Neurofunk, using changes in intensity and momentum to shape his sets. That range can already be heard across his early mixes. In 2024, his Liquid-AufDemWegZurArbeitMix explored the smoother and more melodic side of Drum & Bass. From there, his selections became progressively heavier. Throughout 2025, DROWSY entered several DJ competitions, including contests for Reverse, 303 and YOUPHORIA x CINEMATIC. These mixes pushed deeper into technical and aggressive Neurofunk, with fast combinations, sharp transitions and a strong focus on maintaining constant movement behind the decks. At the same time, DROWSY became increasingly active within Vienna’s club scene. In May 2025, he appeared at Beat It at Vienna’s legendary FLEX alongside artists including KAIRA, Nektaric, Dnbreak, Skabe, Scapula B2B Weazl and Lún. By 2026, that presence continued to grow. DROWSY opened FUELIZED’s First Strike 2026 at Club Lucia with a set described as “filth liquid Drum & Bass”, showing another side of a selection style that continues to move between melodic depth and heavier territory. Later that month, he appeared at CrashDive at Das Werk Vienna on a lineup featuring Tom Finster, Tobax and SLWDWN, placing him alongside some of the darker and more technical names currently moving through the European Drum & Bass circuit. Another important part of DROWSY’s current direction is SHARED FLAT, a collaborative DJ concept presented together with Vienna-based DJ F.Y.P.ZZ. In May 2026, SHARED FLAT crossed the Austrian border for a performance at Centrála in Prague. The project is also continuing back home in Vienna, with F.Y.P.ZZ & DROWSY presenting SHARED FLAT at THE HIVE at FLEX. Behind the decks, DROWSY’s identity is increasingly defined by versatility. Liquid Drum & Bass can turn into rollers. Rollers can move into Neurofunk. Atmospheric sections can suddenly give way to harder, more technical combinations. The common thread is movement. Rather than building a set around isolated drops, DROWSY focuses on the progression between them, constantly changing pressure, texture and energy. Still early in his development, DROWSY represents a new generation coming through Vienna’s Drum & Bass underground: connected to the local scene, increasingly active beyond Austria and steadily developing a sound of his own.
