The Orient Express was expensive by design. From the beginning, passengers needed a first-class rail ticket, paid a luxury supplement on top, then paid separately for meals and drinks. Privacy cost even more. This episode follows the price of Orient Express travel from the original 1883 service through the golden age of Wagons-Lits sleeping cars and into today's Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. We look at what passengers actually paid for: first-class access, sleeping compartments, dining, faster border crossings, baggage handling, privacy, and the staff who made a complicated international journey feel effortless. We also compare the historic train with current fares, where a one-night Historic Cabin can cost thousands of pounds per passenger and the longest luxury journeys reach far beyond ordinary rail travel. #OrientExpress #RailwayHistory #LuxuryTravel #TrainTravel #TheRailsRemember
