Improving maternal health requires more than treatment. It starts with understanding risks, strengthening care and identifying complications early. Pre-eclampsia remains a major cause of maternal deaths in African maternity settings, highlighting the need for better approaches to identifying and managing high-risk pregnancies. Professor Annette Nakimuli, Dean of Makerere University’s School of Medicine, has spent more than two decades working to address this challenge through clinical practice and research. From caring for women with high-risk pregnancies to investigating the genetic factors associated with pre-eclampsia, her work contributes to a deeper understanding of maternal health. In this interview with Willow Health Media, she discusses why many women reach healthcare facilities too late, how risk profiling can help identify those who need closer monitoring, and what research into novel genes could mean for the future of maternal care. #MIRNA #MaternalImmunisation #MaternalHealth #PreEclampsia #GlobalHealth
