How To Restore an old chainsaw. Stihl 056. Part 1. Tear down, carb rebuild pressure and vacuum test.

Really amazed at how well this saw has been looked after and how well it stood up. I don’t know how many hours / years it’s got on it, but after working thru it today, it looks like it wants to go back to work! Air filter was very clean. Had a bit of fines on the inside, so I cleaned them out. The starter wasn’t engaging, so I fixed that. Spark plug was rusty, so I gave the cylinder and piston a good dose of wd40 and gently pulled it over to make sure things were ok. Compression is just under 150psi. Pulled the handlebar and cover off to remove the muffler, still has a screen in there and it’s clean, not fouled, looks like it was running good before it was set aside. Carb was pretty full of sawdust. Installed an OEM Tillotsin carb kit after cleaning the needle jet and port. All for now.
