After a serious failure it is easy to conclude that you have been disqualified for good. In John 21:1–19, Peter, who denied Jesus three times in a courtyard lit by a fire of coals, is met on a Galilee beach at dawn beside another such fire. He is fed, asked three questions, and given a task. We set the scene, read the passage in full, and consider what it shows and what it does not promise. READING John 21:1–19, read in full. Translation: World English Bible (public domain). In verses 15–17 this translation uses two expressions, love and have affection for, following two Greek verbs.
