Maarten De Splenter - 'Innocence' for Flute & Harp

Innocence was composed in 2013 for flutist Inge Smedts and harpist Hanna Grociak as part of Casual Chic, a project centred around new works by Belgian composers for flute and harp. The project resulted in a CD recording and concert programme, combining newly written music with film and poetry. The work was recorded by Smedts and Grociak for the Casual Chic album, released in 2013. In 2025, I returned to the piece and reworked it for piccolo and piano under the new title Rêverie Innocente. This version adapts the original material to the different balance, colour and expressive possibilities of piccolo and piano. Rêverie Innocente was premiered by Inge Smedts and pianist Pieter-Jan Verhoyen during the International Piccolo Festival in Bruges in October 2025. A work originally written for Inge more than a decade earlier thus found a second life within the piccolo repertoire. A recording of Rêverie Innocente is currently planned.
