Sovana is one street long. Via di Mezzo runs the length of a tufa ridge in southern Tuscany, with the Aldobrandeschi fortress at one end and the Romanesque cathedral of Santi Pietro e Paolo at the other. About 100 people live here now. Below the town, the Etruscans carved their dead into the cliffs. The Tomba Ildebranda, cut as a temple front straight into the rock, and the vie cave, sunken roads trenched deep into the tufa, are still there to walk. This is one continuous take.
