A day trip from Rome to Pompeii is easier to organise independently than you might think. In this video, we show you how to travel from Rome to Pompeii by train, book your entrance tickets, and explore the extraordinary remains of this ancient Roman city.
We make the journey ourselves, starting at Roma Termini, taking a high-speed train to Naples and then the local Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii. Along the way, we share practical advice based on our own experience, including how to navigate the stations, where to get off, and how to plan your visit using the official Pompeii website.
Once inside the archaeological park, we explore the ancient streets and buildings, discover how the city functioned nearly 2,000 years ago, and learn about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. We also visit the remarkable plaster casts and share what it was like spending around five hours exploring Pompeii.
