An American reacts to why London’s subway system looks so different from other cities… and I honestly didn’t expect this 😳
In this video, I explore the design of the London Underground and why its stations are often much larger and more built-out compared to places like New York City Subway or the Paris Métro.
In many cities, you can just walk down a set of stairs from the street… but in London, the entrances often feel like full buildings.
From historical development and early engineering decisions to financial and architectural choices, there are actually some really interesting reasons behind it.
As someone from the US, I’m used to quick street-level entrances, so seeing how different London approaches this was really surprising.
It definitely changes how you experience the city.
If you’re from the UK, I’ve got to ask… do you prefer this style, or would you rather have simpler entrances?
