Sunday's Early Window (1:00 PM ET)
Chicago stunned Carolina on the road, torching the Panthers 59-37 in one of the highest-scoring openers of the day — a shootout that saw both offenses moving at will but the Bears' explosive plays proving decisive down the stretch. In Indianapolis, Baltimore rolled past the Colts 41-23, with the Ravens' offense clicking from the start and building a lead too big for Indy to overcome.
Pittsburgh edged Atlanta 20-13 in a lower-scoring, more grinding affair, leaning on defense and a handful of timely drives to hold off the Falcons. Jacksonville throttled Cleveland 34-10, dominating from wire to wire and never letting the Browns find any offensive rhythm.
Cincinnati survived a scare from Tampa Bay, winning 33-27 in a game that stayed tight into the fourth quarter before the Bengals pulled away late. The Jets picked up a road win over Tennessee, 23-10, controlling the game behind a strong defensive performance that kept the Titans out of the end zone for most of the afternoon.
The best game of the window came out of Detroit, where the Lions edged New Orleans 31-30 in a nail-biter that came down to the final possessions — the kind of back-and-forth thriller that had both sidelines on their toes until the clock hit zero. And in Houston, Buffalo escaped with a 36-31 win over the Texans in a track meet of a game, with both teams trading big plays before the Bills' offense found one more scoring drive than Houston could match.
Headlines from the 1:00 window:
Bears' offense erupts in 59-37 win over Panthers
Ravens roll past Colts, 41-23
Steelers hold off Falcons, 20-13
Jaguars blow out Browns, 34-10
Bengals outlast Buccaneers in 33-27 thriller
Jets defense stifles Titans in 23-10 road win
Lions survive Saints in 31-30 nail-biter
Bills outgun Texans, 36-31, in shootout
Sunday's Late Afternoon Window (4:25 PM ET)
Arizona knocked off the Chargers 26-14, controlling the game for long stretches and denying Los Angeles the offensive consistency it needed to keep pace. Minnesota's offense had one of its best days of the young season, blowing past Green Bay 39-22 in a game that was competitive early before the Vikings pulled away in the second half.
Las Vegas took care of business against Miami, winning 27-13 behind a balanced attack that kept the Dolphins off schedule most of the game. And in the tightest finish of the late window, Philadelphia narrowly beat Washington 24-22, a back-and-forth division battle that came down to the wire before the Eagles came out on top.
Headlines from the 4:25 window:
Cardinals topple Chargers, 26-14
Vikings roar past Packers, 39-22
Raiders take down Dolphins, 27-13
Eagles edge Commanders in 24-22 thriller
The Big Picture
Sunday's early and late-afternoon slates delivered plenty of offense and a few genuine nail-biters. The Lions-Saints game and the Eagles-Commanders finish stood out as the tightest, most dramatic finishes of the day, while Chicago's 59-point outburst against Carolina and Detroit's back-and-forth classic with New Orleans were probably the most entertaining watches from a pure football standpoint. Meanwhile, Jacksonville's dominant win over Cleveland and Baltimore's comfortable victory over Indianapolis showed just how lopsided some Week 1 matchups can be even with the sample size of just one game.
