It's already 2026, which means we have been waiting for 10 freaking years for Independence Day 3. Honestly, I don't think any of us has moved on from the original 1996 film yet, which was released, like, three decades ago. The OG Independence Day was an actual cinematic masterpiece. It was the highest-grossing film of 1996 and one of the best films of the decade. The movie's success alone spoke for itself. In the movie, Will Smith was serving peak charisma, while Jeff Goldblum was being the hottest and the wittiest nerd on the planet. Also, I just cannot erase the iconic scene of the White House getting completely vaporized from my memory, and I bet we all collectively gasped when we first saw it.
