While the papacy currently adopts a conciliatory tone, it still maintains its doctrine of infallibility and a history of suppressing liberty of conscience. A central concern is the predicted alliance between church and state to enforce Sunday observance, a human-made tradition rather than a biblical mandate. Based on historical examples of persecution and the use of miracles to validate church authority, a revival of religious tyranny is inevitable if secular restraints are removed. Ultimately, it is absolutely necessary to return to Scriptural authority to resist a system which is a deceptive threat to both civil and religious freedoms.
