Beetroot is a popular winter vegetable that is mainly cultivated for its root. It is very beneficial in terms of health as it is full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Many farmers are now becoming interested in this cultivation as beetroot cultivation is economically profitable and can be done through easily available agricultural technology. Beetroot is a nutritious and economically profitable crop. If technology, experience, and hard work are combined in its cultivation, farmers can benefit and can also contribute to the national economy. It can be an excellent alternative crop for rural farmers as it has the opportunity to produce high yields with little capital investment. Dear friends, today we will know how to cultivate beetroot. We will discuss all the aspects of beetroot cultivation step by step. Selecting the right climate and soil for beetroot cultivation is very important. Generally, winter weather is suitable for beetroot cultivation. It grows well in relatively cold weather, and high temperatures hinder its growth. However, severe cold and snowfall can be harmful to beetroot plants. The best soil for beetroot is organic matter-rich, well-drained loam or sandy loam soil, with a pH value between 6.0 and 7.5. In heavy soils or waterlogged land, beetroot root deformation occurs and yield is reduced. The time of sowing seeds depends on the climate of the area. The best time to sow beetroot is usually from late October to mid-November. Before sowing, the land should be well cultivated and the soil should be loosened and kept free from weeds. During cultivation, it is good to apply 10 to 15 tons of rotted cow dung fertilizer, 60 to 80 kg of nitrogen, 40 to 50 kg of phosphorus, and 50 to 60 kg of potash per hectare. Since beetroot seeds are a little hard in nature, soaking them in water for 12 to 24 hours before planting speeds up germination. Generally, if the distance between rows is 30 cm and between plants is 10 cm, the plants grow properly. In terms of irrigation, a light irrigation should be given immediately after sowing the seeds to help germination. Later, irrigation should be given every 15 to 20 days, depending on the moisture content of the soil. However, waterlogging is very harmful to beetroot plants, because it can rot the roots of the plant. If excess water accumulates, drainage should be made. Along with irrigation, weeding and weed control are important tasks. If weeds are cleared and the land is loosened every 20 to 25 days, the plant grows well, and the root shape is complete. Among the diseases and pests of beetroot, leaf spot, rot disease, beet fly, aphids, etc. are notable. When these diseases and insects attack, the leaves of the plant turn yellow, growth is disrupted, and the root shape is distorted. To prevent diseases, the land can be properly fertilized, regularly weeded, and sprayed with fungicides or insecticides as needed. Generally, beetroot is suitable for harvesting within 80 to 100 days of sowing. The crop should be harvested when the root reaches full size and the lower leaves of the plant start to dry. 🔴 COPYRIGHT DISCLAIMER Business Ideas English does not claim full ownership of the materials used in this video.
