Evolution of Rotterdam (9000 BCE–2026): Fixed-Camera Timelapse

Evolution of Rotterdam (9000 BCE–2026): Fixed-Camera Timelapse Watch Rotterdam transform across more than 11,000 years in exactly 9 minutes, from an ancient wet delta landscape to the extraordinary 2026 skyline of Oude Haven, the Cube Houses, and Blaaktoren. This historical timelapse uses one permanently locked camera position from the modern Koningsdam / Koningspoort side of Oude Haven, looking northwest toward Blaak. The reconstruction begins around c.9000 BCE, representing the earliest defensible local hunter-fisher era before permanent settlement. From there, watch this exact location evolve through the marsh and peat development, the medieval Rotta-era settlement, and the intense port expansions of the Dutch Golden Age. Watch closely as the Laurenskerk rises in the background, medieval fortifications develop, and iconic structures like the Luchtspoor elevated railway and Plan C are constructed. Every building is introduced only after its historically appropriate period, showing physical construction through excavation, foundations, scaffolding, and masonry. The video also reconstructs one of the most dramatic transformations in European urban history: the devastating destruction of central Rotterdam on 14 May 1940, followed by the city’s radically modern post-war rebuilding, culminating in Piet Blom's iconic Cube Houses. 🎬 CHAPTERS: Key Milestones in Rotterdam's History 0:00 — 9000 BCE: Earliest Hunter-Fisher Era 0:40 — 800 CE: Early Rotta Settlement Begins 2:00 — 1340: Rotterdam Gains City Rights 2:50 — 1563: The Great Fire of Rotterdam 4:00 — 1750: Dutch Golden Age Sailing Port 5:00 — 1889: The Industrial Harbour Era 5:40 — 1940: Devastating WWII Bombing 7:00 — 1968: Post-War Laurenskerk Restoration 8:00 — 1984: The Iconic Cube Houses Completed 8:30 — 2026: Modern Rotterdam Oude Haven AI Disclosure: This video is a historically researched visual reconstruction.
