Golf journalist James Mason from www.planetgolfreview.com planetgolfreview.co.uk and www.sportsjournalist.info talks to Farleigh Golf Club, PGA Professional Shain Johnson on how to improve your chip shots
This is the reshot video with Shain.
Hinge - Hold - Rotate
The best chip shots are built on simplicity.
1. Start by positioning the ball in line with your trail toe, hands over front knee and weight favouring the lead side. This promotes a descending strike and helps create the crisp contact needed for a controlled chip.
2.From there, introduce a subtle wrist hinge in the backswing, then hold that angle through impact rather than allowing the clubhead to overtake the hands.
3. The final ingredient is rotation: keep the body turning towards the target, with the chest and hands moving together through the shot.
4. Think “hinge, hold, rotate”—a compact sequence that encourages clean contact, predictable trajectory and the control to consistently leave yourself a makeable putt.
