2025 Youth Leadership Program

The TAMS-AC Youth Leadership Program brought together 12 Aboriginal students from five schools across Tamworth and Manilla for three days of culture, leadership, connection and future planning. Throughout the program, students visited local Aboriginal organisations and significant community sites, spent time with Elders, explored Gomeroi language and culture, heard from inspiring Aboriginal leaders, and took part in hands-on activities focused on health, wellbeing and career pathways. They also had the opportunity to visit the University of Newcastle's health simulation labs and connect with Aboriginal professionals working across a range of health and community service roles. One of the most valuable outcomes was helping young people see the many opportunities available to them after school. Through honest yarns and real-life experiences, students gained a better understanding of pathways into health, wellbeing, community services and leadership roles, while building confidence in their own ability to make a difference. The program was a powerful reminder that when young people are connected to culture, community and opportunity, amazing things happen. We saw confidence grow, friendships form, ideas shared, and future leaders begin to see what's possible.
