"Food security" means different things to different people
For farmers, it's about Britain producing a substantial share of its own food. For families, it's about affordability and quality. This framing tension runs through the whole interview.
Scotland's land is largely not used to feed Scotland
The best land grows veg for domestic consumption, but a lot of the rest goes to wheat and barley destined for the drinks industry (whisky), not food. Lamb, beef and dairy are produced in large surplus and exported. This is a strong, counterintuitive point — "food and drink" statistics flatter the balance of payments but don't equate to feeding people.
