The Horse by the Stream | Original Song from a Poem by Jing Liu From the moment we are born, life seems to be a journey of endless running. We study, work, raise families, and struggle to meet the expectations and pressures of society. We keep moving forward, rarely daring to stop. Then, one day, something changes. Our eyes begin to struggle with the small print. Our knees start to ache. Friends our age begin talking about retirement. And suddenly, we look in the mirror and realize — we, too, have grown old. That realization inspired my poem The Horse by the Stream. The horse is a reflection of ourselves, running tirelessly through life until one quiet moment beside a stream, when it finally stops and sees its own reflection in the water. Perhaps growing older is not only about what time takes away, but also about learning to slow down, look within, and truly see ourselves. Every poem tells a story. This one is about the moment we realize how far we have traveled through life.
