Day 4 of the Gledholt Blockade brings another major change to the TransPennine Route Upgrade, with track removal continuing through the Gledholt tunnels and significant progress at Springwood Junction, Huddersfield Station and Deighton.
The video begins at the western portal of the Gledholt tunnels, where the Huddersfield Down track is being lifted and removed. Gledholt Bank below is closed as a precaution while the work takes place, with Kirklees Council also using the road closure to carry out highway maintenance.
At Springwood Junction, the changes are becoming increasingly dramatic. The S&C panel installed the previous day is now in place, while further track has been removed from the Penistone line and through the Gledholt North tunnel.
A Kirow rail crane, unit DRK 81626, is seen in operation moving sections of track, sleepers and rail around the worksite as engineers continue dismantling and rebuilding the railway through the junction.
Further east at Huddersfield Railway Station, work continues across several fronts. Overhead line equipment has now appeared on Canopy C over Platform 6, while two additional canopy sections are being assembled in the station yard.
Work also continues around the new subway extension beneath Platforms 4 and 5, with shuttering being built or strengthened ahead of a future concrete pour. Another Kirow crane is also seen passing through Huddersfield Station, apparently heading towards Springwood Junction.
At Deighton Station, the recently poured concrete at Whitacre Street Bridge is now much clearer, including utility conduits embedded within the structure. Work is also continuing on the island platform and around the station site.
The transformation is especially visible at Leeds Road Overbridge, where engineers are continuing to cut back and regrade the embankment to create space for the future fast lines.
From here, the future alignment can be followed towards Bradley Junction, with further vegetation clearance, ground preparation and engineering fill visible as the formation develops.
Engineering fill has now been laid as far as the approach to Calder Bridge Road Bridge, suggesting this may form the next extent of the fast-line installation from Deighton.
The video finishes at Colne Bridge Road Bridge, where part of the old railway alignment is being retained, with the historic abutments expected to remain in place.
On Track With Tim will continue documenting the Gledholt Blockade as the railway changes day by day, including Springwood Junction, Gledholt Tunnel, Huddersfield Station, Deighton, Bradley Junction and the future fast lines.
