On October 9th, I decided to chase multiple bucket list trains that I have been wanting to see for a very long time, that being Union Pacific's Potash Local on the Cane Creek Branch and the Canyon Spirit Train! We first chase the Potash Local from the entry to the Cane Creek Branch in Brendel, UT to Bootlegger Canyon at the big cutting near Corona Arch, then we chase the Canyon Spirit from a spot north of Green River, UT to Thompson Springs, UT where it met a Westbound BNSF Crude Oil Train that we chased from Thompson Springs to the same spot where we started our chase of the Canyon Spirit north of Green River. I was hoping to see the Crude Oil Train pulling into the yard at Wellington, UT, but I did manage to catch their switcher doing a quick switching move using a former UP GP15-1. While attempting to wait for the Crude Oil Train to arrive at Wellington yard, I got word of BNSF's H-PVODEN making its way east over Soldier Summit, so without hesitation, I changed my plans and headed west past Helper to chase them down the hill. We start at the tunnels south of Colton and end the chase at Helper. The train action in general may not be the busiest (in fact this is the part of Utah that gets the least amount of train traffic), but if the stars align and you happen to have a few trains to chase, the day could turn into a busy one like this one did! The action may be slow, but Soldier Summit in my opinion is highly recommended, especially for the Canyon Backdrops and horn echoes at each crossing they traverse through in the Helper area. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for Watching!
