Continuing our journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina, we spend a peaceful, reflective day in Medjugorje at the beautiful Church of Saint James. Join us as we attend the 12:00 PM Mass, share a pilgrim lunch, and explore the sacred grounds before gathering for a communal evening Rosary.
Whether you're planning your own pilgrimage or just following along on our travels, we hope this video brings you a sense of peace.
Places to Check Out at St. James Church
When you have free time after lunch, the grounds around St. James Church are expansive and designed for walking and prayer. Here are the key spots to visit:
The Exterior Altar (White Dome): Located just behind the main church building. This massive open-air seating area is where large gatherings, evening programs, and summer Masses are held.
Statue of the Queen of Peace: Located right in the square at the front entrance of the church. This marble statue is the primary gathering spot and photo location for pilgrims arriving at the parish.
The Confessionals: Medjugorje is often called the "confessional of the world." Walk down the sides of the church exterior to see the long rows of wooden confessionals where priests hear confessions in dozens of languages.
Via Domini (Path of the Lord): A peaceful, tree-lined walkway that leads from the back of the church to the Risen Christ statue, featuring beautiful mosaic depictions of the Luminous Mysteries.
The Risen Christ Statue (Uskrsli Spasitelj): Walk along the Via Domini behind the church to find this massive bronze sculpture. It is famous worldwide because droplets of a water-like liquid mysteriously seep from the right knee of the statue. You will often see pilgrims lining up to wipe the droplets with small cloths.
