Description: In this long distance trip test, I take the updated Volvo EX90 equipped with its new 800-volt battery architecture onto the German Autobahn to evaluate high-speed driving efficiency and real-world fast charging performance. Target cruising speed is set at 140 km/h (87 mph), pushing into higher speeds where traffic permits, to see how efficiently this large electric SUV covers distance under realistic long-distance travel conditions. Throughout the journey, I measure overall energy consumption, evaluate high-power charging curve behavior across multiple stops, analyze active battery preconditioning features, and test updated driver assistance systems. At the conclusion of the drive, the new 800V architecture is directly compared against the previous 400V model year system to examine true charging time savings and average speed metrics.
