A sacred fox faces the one no shrine would keep. Kitsune Nogitsune, possession, hunger, and an ancient shrine under moonlight. A mythological Japanese song about the clash between a divine Kitsune of Inari and a corrupted Nogitsune born from abandonment, hunger, and broken worship. Which side felt more powerful to you: the sacred Kitsune or the starving Nogitsune? Hoshi-no-tama, my soul in glass, cradled soft beneath my tongue, a hundred years for every tail I amass, a hundred years since I was young. Kitsunebi dance on paddies wet, green flame to guide the lost ones home, I am the vow the farmers won't forget, I am the light between the stone. But something moves beneath the shrine, something hungrier than mine— a fox unclaimed, un-blessed, un-fed, who dreams in the language of the dead. Hear the bell, hear the shimenawa rope, hear the torii groaning under weight— I am purification, I am hope, I stand between the world and its own gate. Nine tails I have not yet earned, but nine hungers already stir in the one whose worship was overturned, whose offerings rotted, whose shrine grew fur of moss and silence, forgotten, spurned— he waited in the dark to learn what it means when a god looks away, when devotion starves and turns to prey. I AM THE FOX NO SHRINE WOULD KEEP I AM THE HUNGER THAT DOES NOT SLEEP. I tore the star-ball from my chest, swallowed it whole to end the debt, no purification, no sacred rest— kitsunetsuki is all I've left. I slip inside the miko's mind, I speak in tongues her kin don't know, I leave the shimenawa rope behind in ash and frost and blackened snow. Return the flame you stole from grace— There is no grace left to steal. Then I will burn to hold this place— Then burn. Let's see what's real. Foxfire against corrupted flame, starlight against the starving dark, one born of worship, one of shame, one is the wound, one is the mark. Tail against tail, nine against nine, the paddies flood with silver light, the o-fuda burn along the shrine line, this is the shape of an endless night. HOSHI-NO-TAMA! HOSHI-NO-TAMA! Give back the soul you cannot own! KITSUNETSUKI! KITSUNETSUKI! I will not leave this god alone! The mist returns without a sound, the paddies still, the shrine bells hushed— somewhere a star-ball's on the ground, somewhere a hungry tail is crushed. Inari's breath upon the reeds... a fox still walks... to feed... or lead... #kitsune #nogitsune #mythology #music #mythologymusic
