Fort Point Historic Site: Visiting San Francisco's Civil War Fort Fort Point is one of those places everyone who visits San Francisco should see. The historic fort from the 1850's is situated at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge and is fantastic for photos or just exploring. Do note that it is only open Friday to Sunday though so you can make sure you don't go when it is closed.
