In 1897, S. A. Andrée, Nils Strindberg and Knut Frænkel left Svalbard in a hydrogen balloon. None returned. Thirty-three years later, recovered diaries and damaged film revealed months of work on the ice. This film follows that surviving record, its recovery, and the limits of what it can tell us about the expedition’s ending. Visual reconstructions illustrate the historical context. Archival photographs are shown as published reproductions.
