Hiking Beaverdam Reservoir Yellow Loop with My GSD

Join me and my 8 month old German Shepherd, who hikes like he’s the self appointed sheriff of Beaverdam Reservoir, on the Beaverdam Reservoir Yellow Loop — a super chill 1.2 mile loop that’s perfect for humans who want a peaceful walk and dogs who want to sniff every leaf, stick, and suspicious blade of grass in Virginia. This trail is easy, shaded, and ideal for a quick nature break. We got water views, quiet forest stretches, and a few muddy spots — which my GSD treated like a personal splash challenge. Wildlife roll call: 🐢 Two turtle living its best slow motion life 🐿️ A few squirrels who clearly pays rent here and wasn’t impressed by us 🐺 Angel, who tried to make friends with both and was ignored by both The trail is well maintained, dog friendly, kid friendly, and loops right along the water before dipping deeper into the woods. Dogs must be on leash, which is great because my GSD thinks he’s the trail manager. And yes — the Welcome Center is nearby for snacks, water, and pretending you’re more prepared than you are.
