For the next forty minutes, you are watching a dance an emperor saw in a dream.
A thousand years ago, the Emperor Xuanzong dreamed he rose to the moon and found the immortals dancing — rainbow skirts, feathered sleeves, crowns swaying like light. He woke, and wrote the music down. He called it 霓裳羽衣 — the Rainbow Robe.
This is not music to fall asleep to.
This is music to keep you company — while you work, while you read, while the day goes by.
Rainbow robes turning like snow. Drums quickening into a thousand bright beats. And, at the very end, one long note that no other song dared to hold.
Step into the music, and watch her dance.

The Rainbow Robe — Bai Juyi (772–846)
A rainbow skirt, a cloud-dark cape, a crown that sways;
strings of jade and gold, ringing softly as she moves.
So slight she seems unable to bear her own silk gauze —
she listens to the music, steps, and stills again.
Six measures of the prelude, and still she does not move;
even the lingering clouds are too idle to drift away.
Then the beat cuts in, sharp as splitting bamboo,
as spring ice cracking open.
She turns, light as whirling snow;
she sweeps, swift as a dragon startled into flight.
Her hands sink low — a willow with no strength;
her trailing robe sweeps aside, and clouds seem to rise.
Her brows draw in, too lovely to hold the pose;
her wind-filled sleeves rise and fall as if they feel.
Twelve rounds, the beat quickening —
a clatter of leaping pearls, of struck jade.
The phoenix finishes, and folds its wings;
the crane draws one long cry — and the song is gone.
