Bahawalpur boasts a rich history and cultural heritage spanning more than 250 years. The Old City of Bahawalpur, once enclosed by seven historic gates, was home to vibrant Hindu and Sikh communities who built stunning architectural landmarks. Areas like Fatteh Khan Bazaar and Bhabrra Bazaar were among the most prominent residential and commercial hubs, famous for their elegant wooden balconies and intricate craftsmanship. These historic streets reflected the artistic brilliance and multicultural harmony of the era. After nearly 275 years, the Punjab Administration has initiated restoration and reconstruction efforts to revive these heritage structures. Plans are also underway to develop a new food street inspired by the ambiance of the Late 17th century, preserving the city’s traditional charm. Iconic landmarks such as Bikaneri Gate, new name “Farid Gate”, one of the grand entrances to the Old City, stand as powerful symbols of Bahawalpur’s glorious past and enduring legacy.
