Religious Significance: According to legend, the Moon God (Chandra) was cursed by his father-in-law Daksha Prajapati, which caused him to lose his radiance. To overcome the curse, Chandra worshipped Lord Shiva at this very place. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva cured him and resided here as Someshwar (“Lord of the Moon”). That’s why the temple is known as Somnath or Someshwar Jyotirlinga. History: The temple has been mentioned in Skanda Purana, Shiva Purana, and Shrimad Bhagwat Purana. It is believed to be more than 2000 years old. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times by invaders like Mahmud of Ghazni, Alauddin Khilji, and Aurangzeb. The present grand structure was rebuilt in 1951 under the guidance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. #SomeshwarJyotirling #SomnathJyotirling #AdiJyotirling #SomeshwarMahadev #SomnathTemple #LordShiva #ShivBhakti #HarHarMahadev #DivineDarshan #JyotirlingaDarshan #GujaratSpiritualTourism
