Is America’s energy power making a comeback as the Gulf faces an unprecedented energy and shipping crisis?
A major development involving Qatar Energy and U.S. LNG is raising much bigger questions about the future of global energy markets, the Gulf’s dependence on external supplies and the ongoing debate over de-dollarization.
According to Reuters, Qatar Energy is negotiating multi-year U.S. LNG contracts extending through 2031, reportedly seeking around 2–3 million tonnes per year from American producers including Venture Global, Cheniere and Woodside. The move comes after Iranian strikes damaged Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG infrastructure, knocking out around 12.8 million tonnes per year of capacity, with repairs expected to take several years.
The strategic significance is enormous.
Qatar is one of the world's major LNG exporters, and around 80% of its LNG shipments normally go to Asian buyers. With the Strait of Hormuz disrupted, Qatar Energy is now looking toward the United States for longer-term replacement supplies.
This raises a critical geopolitical question:
Is the Gulf crisis unintentionally strengthening America’s position in the global energy system?
The story becomes even bigger when we look at Saudi Arabia, the UAE, India and the wider Asian energy market.
Saudi Arabia has now suspended operations on its East-West oil pipeline following attacks, while continuing instability around Hormuz and the Red Sea is disrupting traditional energy routes.
India, meanwhile, has been aggressively diversifying its energy supplies. Reporting indicates that U.S. energy has become increasingly important as India looks for alternatives amid disruption to Gulf supply routes.
So is this simply an emergency energy response?
Or is something much bigger happening?
Could the Gulf crisis accelerate a new U.S.-centred energy trading network?
Could American LNG and oil gain market share precisely when BRICS countries are discussing de-dollarisation and greater use of alternative financial mechanisms?
And could the disruption of Gulf energy flows unintentionally strengthen the petrodollar and U.S. energy influence?
In this geopolitical analysis, we examine:
Qatar Energy’s move toward long-term U.S. LNG contracts
Why Qatar could be buying American LNG until 2031
The damage to Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG infrastructure
Why the Strait of Hormuz has become the centre of the global energy crisis
Saudi Arabia’s changing oil-export routes
The emerging U.S. role in Gulf energy security

The connection between the Gulf crisis and de-dollarization
Whether the crisis could strengthen the U.S. dollar-based energy system
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and the wider GCC energy strategy
How America could gain strategic leverage through LNG and oil
BRICS, petrodollar politics and the emerging multipolar energy order
What this means for India’s energy security
Who ultimately benefits from the new global energy map?
The central question is simple:
Is the Gulf crisis weakening the old energy order — or quietly rebuilding American energy dominance?
Watch the full analysis for an India-centric breakdown of Qatar LNG, U.S. energy power, Gulf oil, India’s energy strategy, the Strait of Hormuz, BRICS, de-dollarization and the emerging global energy war.
