SA DEC REGION MAP | Sa Dec Flower Village: A Cultural Icon of the Mekong Delta

Every great story begins from a small seed. For the Sa Đéc flower village, that seed was sown nearly seventy years ago in the garden of Mr. Tư Tôn, whose real name was Dương Hữu Tài (1926-2005), one of the people seen as a founder of the craft. Around 1949-1950, Mr. Tư Tôn worked as a tenant farmer for a landlord who loved roses. Recognising his passion, the landlord gave him precious French rose varieties to try. He went on to bring back around a hundred varieties to trial along the Tien River. In the humid tropical climate of the Mekong, only nearly half could adapt and thrive, the result of years of trial, failure and patient selection. That perseverance laid the first bricks of a flower village that would grow, over generations, into the 'flower capital' of the Mekong Delta.
