Journey of Awakening · The Secret of the Golden Flower - Lecture 12 - Blank Is Not Calm

Blank Is Not Calm: Quiet Is Not Numbness Being quiet is not always being calm, and feeling loose is not always being loose. In chapter five of the Taiyi Jinhua Zongzhi, "Mistakes in Turning the Light Around," the book first warns about side roads that appear once the practice grows more mature. In lecture twelve of the Journey of Awakening, in Chile's Atacama Desert and Patagonia, we read the first three mistakes: wuji kong, the blank emptiness of sitting inside "nothing happening"; taking it on with a surge of enthusiasm; and sinking into the realm of the skandhas, "withered wood and dead ashes." The book's counterweights are: "In the letting go of all things, it is wide awake and at ease," and "The true sign is found between there and not there." We first make clear what these words mean, then see how they steady the mind, change how we perceive, and show things as they are. Then we bring them into daily life: scrolling your phone is not resting, and the cold treatment is not calm. Finally, trading: the numbness after a loss and the habit of skipping review, the tension of trying too hard, and the weariness of mechanical coldness, and how to practise hands-on in TradingRight with Risk Guard, Confirmations, the Paper Account, the P&L Journal and Trade Review.
