Rachel Kwan opens with Psalm 98—the psalm that inspired Isaac Watts’ beloved hymn Joy to the World. But Watts wasn’t writing about the first coming of Christ—it was about His second coming. Psalm 98 calls us to “break forth into joyous song.” What does it really mean to “break forth” in worship (as the original language states in Psalm 98:4b)? Does it happen automatically, or is it a breakthrough of the heart that God invites us into? Takeaway: God looks at the heart, not the pitch or volume. Worship is when we remember how undeserving we are and how amazing it is that God receives us through Jesus Christ.
