What if Alexander the Great didn’t die in Babylon, and turned west to invade Rome?
In 323 BC, Alexander was planning a war against the West: Carthage, Sicily, Spain and Italy. Even the Romans argued about what would have happened. The historian Livy wrote an entire chapter on this question.
In this alternate history scenario, Alexander lands in Italy in 320 BC with his phalanx, his Companion cavalry and his war elephants. Against him stands the young Roman Republic, led by the tough consul Lucius Papirius Cursor.
Who would win?
In this video:
• Alexander’s real plans for the West
• Rome after the humiliation of the Caudine Forks
• The Macedonian phalanx vs the Roman legion
• The trap in the Apennine mountains
• The final battle near Luceria
• Pyrrhic victory and the battle of Pydna
This video is an alternate history scenario. Alexander’s invasion of Italy is fictional, but the people, armies and many key events are based on real history.
