Thermal strategy for DLG glider

Catching small, low level thermals and hanging on to them to get up into the core is the art of DLG. This video records my strategy and thinking as I climbed into a couple of good thermals from small legs of lift near the ground. My basic approach is to find a small patch of strong lift and then bank as hard as the lift will allow to stay inside the core until it gets big enough to widen out the circle. Then use a less agressive bank to maximise lift and climb rate. This day was hot and steamy with a very light breeze. Lots of low level cumulus cloud and plenty of thermals.
