The theme music from the Motion Picture “Somewhere in Time” was composed in 1980 by John Barry Prendergast (1933 - 2011). John Barry was a British composer and conductor of film music. He composed the scores for eleven of the James Bond films between 1963 and 1987, as well as arranging and performing the "James Bond Theme" for the first film in the series, 1962's “ Dr. No”. He wrote the Grammy- and Academy Award-winning scores to the films “Dances with Wolves” and “Out of Africa”, as well as the scores of “The Scarlet Letter”, “Chaplin”, “The Cotton Club”, “Game of Death”, “The Tamarind Seed”, “Mary, Queen of Scots” and the theme for the television series “The Persuaders!”, in a career spanning over 50 years. Somewhere in Time is a 1980 American romantic fantasy drama film from Universal Pictures, directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer. It is a film adaptation of the 1975 novel Bid Time Return by Richard Matheson, who also wrote the screenplay. The film is known for its original musical score composed and conducted by John Barry (who was suggested by Jane Seymour, a personal friend), featuring pianist Roger Williams. In lieu of a fee, Barry took a percentage of the royalties on the soundtrack, which went on to become his best-selling film score. The music became one of the most requested at weddings for a decade after the film's release. A score based on the 18th variation of Sergei Rachmaninoff's “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” is also used in the film several times.
