I have a hard time creating worthy superlatives for him at this point, he is just beyond my brain's ability to fathom. He asked me about this years ago, to which I replied that I would be reluctant to attempt given my past kit's proclivity to drop in the roll at the end of the first chorus. Nothing ever materialized then but this year Andrew's thirst for this song was renewed, and given I no longer had an excuse, I had to volunteer for the task. I am certain I was the incorrect choice for drums on this, as I'm pretty sure I missed more than Andrew. There was a sequence of restarts in which Mr. Tree FCed the solo 3 times in a row, and I either missed during it or choked the fill after it. I want to say the post-solo choke counter reached 6 for me, but it could have been more. Just imagine that for a second: Andrew has FCed this in band at LEAST 6 times, probably more. Absolutely inhuman. The "double stuffed oreo" fill, as Travis so beautifully named, after the solo is hard to be sure, but under nerves of knowing the band is counting on you after your guitarist pulls his part off it was just stifling. The air around my head became sweltering, my chest compressed to a lethal degree, arresting my lungs, and my limbs quaked with the fear of failure so near. If you listen at the end you'll hear how I was very well fed up with my ineptitude and was prepared to do the unthinkable and just skip it had I missed again, as the embarrassment was reaching an unprecedented height. Thankfully it didn't come to that, and I can be at least a little proud of my contribution in the final product. Ben and Brendan/Matt were perfect as usual, nothing but consummate professionals we're working with here. But my heavens, Tree really is a blessing from above, both for being so remarkably consistent and for not biting my nincompoop head off after the slog this became. Sitting through a two and half minute intro only stays fun for so long. A large thank you to T and Lansing for their efforts on this as well, I'm sure I was a big reason they weren't in this.
