Morissette Amon | Never Enough from The Greatest Showman | Vocal Reaction & Analysis
Morissette Amon possesses the kind of natural ability that makes extraordinarily difficult singing sound almost instinctive.
In this edition of On The Voice, Craig and Aaron react to her live performance of “Never Enough” on Wish 107.5. Her upper register is thrilling, focused, powerful, and remarkably confident. Aaron describes her as one of the finest belters he has heard, while Craig agrees that the sound at the top of the voice is exceptional.
Their discussion becomes especially interesting when they turn to the softer opening and the lower and middle areas of the voice. Both hear moments in which the pitch and vocal line feel less settled than they do in the belt, but they offer different explanations.
Craig hears moments in which the voice appears to come off the breath as the volume decreases. Aaron considers vowel choices, stylistic imitation, fatigue, and the difficulty of immediately settling into a live radio performance. Their disagreement becomes a thoughtful discussion about an essential principle: singing softly should still use the same coordinated voice as singing loudly.
They also examine the difference between intentional distortion and distortion caused by heaviness or friction. Another central question is artistic identity. What might happen if Morissette approached the song as though it had been written specifically for her rather than reproducing the phrasing and effects associated with another version?
This is not a dismissal of her ability. Craig and Aaron recognize a remarkably gifted singer with a magnificent voice. Their debate asks what separates an amazing natural singer from the rare artist whose technique remains equally secure in every register, dynamic, and stylistic choice?
