Conversion Video 58: Shore Power with Inverter/Charger and Dual Inverter Upgrade

On our trip to Skooliepalooza in the middle of January, the Solar and Batteries had a tough time keeping up with the winter weather. The tank heaters draw a lot of energy, which is tough for a boondocking machine with no generator. I never expected to drive in conditions like that, but now I want to be prepared for that inevitability. The little Morningstar inverter we have is a nice little unit for charging phones, but would never be able to handle any kind of power tools for a prolonged period. It would be nice to be able to work out of the bus on other projects off-grid. This video shows how I solved both of these problems with a dual-inverter setup that included the installation of a marine inverter/charger with 30 amp shore power receptacle. I show you how I installed the new inverter to work in harmony with the old inverter. I also show you how I wired up my breakers, 3-Pole AC Rotary Switch, AC electrical panel, and 30 amp shore power receptacle for the upgrade. The 2000 watt Inverter/Charger allows us to use shore power to top up the batteries and use larger electrical loads without drawing them down. When we're not using a bunch of high-load tools or appliances off-grid, 2000 watts is overkill. So, the old 300 watt inverter is a nice backup for when we want to keep our phantom draw down. With this setup, we can camp in more harsh conditions, do more off-grid, and live with more comfort for more extended periods of time.
