Preparing for the 2026 Hurricane Season II: Lessons from Kona Lows and Hurricanes Lala and Lowell

After the first webinar on preparing for the 2026 hurricane season, University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program faculty member Dennis Hwang returned for a second conversation, building on lessons from the Kona lows and Hurricane Lala and incorporating new takeaways from Hurricane Lowell and other recent storms. Hwang shared practical steps that Hawai‘i residents can take to strengthen their preparedness, including understanding local hazards, developing an emergency plan, preparing their homes, and considering when sheltering in place may be appropriate.
